SEO Advent Calendar 2014: Week 1

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Everyone crank up the Michael Buble on the speaker system, pull on the most garish/comfy jumper you can find and get the mulled wine out.

It’s the return of the Boyd Digital SEO Advent Calendar for a second year. Every Monday for the next four weeks we’ll be dishing out a friendly tip you can use every day for your sites. The idea is that we deliver some quality advice in little bite size chunks that turn a potential audit into a little tweak you can perform day by day while you work. You save time and money. We keep singing Step In To Christmas. It’s that easy.

Here’s what to do during week 1.

Mon Dec 1st: Title Tag Review
We have our own tool for checking just how all of your site’s title tags will appear in Google SERPs. It’s the Title Tag Pixel Meter and is perfect for those who like to nit-pick over just how many characters they need to show.

Tues Dec 2nd: Landing Page
Run an eCommerce site? Thinking of having a “flash” sale just after Christmas Day? Get that landing page set up and looking nice now. No saving in draft. Just put it live with minimal text and get it indexed.

Wed Dec 3rd: Plan Your Posts
Just because you’ll be out of the office over the holiday period, don’t forget you can pre-plan posts on Facebook & Twitter with tools like Hootsuite. Schedule a post to go live when Mrs.Browns Boys Xmas Special is on and you can be certain of a few post through clicks.

Thurs Dec 4th: Spell Check
Simple spelling errors can make your site seem unprofessional. Because a lot of content can be written in browser, you might not pick up on simple oversights. Just take five minutes to quickly copy your next blog post on page in a word doc and see if everything is tickety-boo.

Fri Dec 5th: Rebrand Your Listings
Do a quick brand search for your location. Do you have listings showing up on the first page that are incorrect? Have a little look through those top results and note any that might have the wrong address or an out-dated brand name. And once you get around to remember what the password for the account is, update it.

Next Monday we’ll be judging the pros and cons of U2 vs. Darlene Love’s version of Christmas and opening the advent calendar doors to reveal more SEO tips.
