Monday Mentions: 12th January

It’s miserable outside today. Grey skies. Wind battering against the windows. Relentless rain. It’s fantastic inside Boyd Digital HQ though (apart from the fact we forgot to buy coffee this morning). We have soul music blaring through the speakers and the office pup is here. So what’s going on in the world of digital marketing this week? Let’s have a scroll through Twitter to find out.

We’re sticklers for good and bad ads, especially on YouTube. Waiting with the finger on the trigger to hit skip as soon as five seconds are up is natural. But what about all those times when you just flip tabs to avoid watching the ad? Well Google will soon let you know whether anyone pays any attention to video ads.

We’ve noticed a lot of blogs and news sites putting up bold posts about how 2015 is the year of mobile SEO. If only we’d had been as quick off the mark and knew about the swing earlier. Oh, hold on, we did back in 2013.

Speaking of mobile, Bing is going to start disavowing sites that just have their contact numbers in plain text. Time to mark up people!

Facebook video views are soaring. It would put panic in to those investing heavily  in YouTube, but don’t forget that A LOT of these views are simply because people don’t realise you can turn off automatic playback. A quick flick of the button in settings and you should have 100{262b22605905d7bdadc9d0423a4a46028d1c16e5c2069f052c9de36584b442a6} Lad Bible videos your friends like, sucking up your data in no time at all.

And don’t forget our next BDX event is this Wednesday evening at the Butterfly & Pig! You can get tickets on Eventbrite.
